(Note:  Alcatraz Island was occupied from 1969-1971 by Native American activists to protest federal policies related to American Indians and the graffiti still remains)

Alcatraz Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles offshore and referred to as "The Rock".  It has a lighthouse (the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast), was a military post, a military prison, and a federal prison.  It became a National Historical Landmark in 1986.

Pedi-cab ride back from the docks to Chinatown

It is probably a good thing you can't see what Ross was trying to capture in the park across the street from the hotel.  Rats, hundreds and hundreds of rats that came out at night.  It was horrifying.
