California Border Check...not quite sure what they are looking for...you just slow down and then off you go back on the I-5.




Mount Shasta: The second highest peak in the Cascade Range at 14,179 feet (first is Mount Rainer).  It is also the most voluminous volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc (the volume is 85 cubic miles).  It is on schedule to erupt within the next 400 years.  And yes, the Shasta Drinks are named after Mt. Shasta.

Southern Oregon forest fires

On the way to California we passed very close to a huge wildfire burning in southern Oregon.  Over 2,000 acres are burning, fueled by 100 degree temps, no humidity, and strong winds.
