GA -to- Tampa, FL -to- Grassy Key, FL

The idea of living in an RV started out by during research about living in small spaces, a training evolution for life on a sailboat.  Then it seemed a good idea to fit the current work/travel situation.

A former navy submariner once explained to me, “Working on a submarine was cool, for about the first fifteen minutes.”  While living in an RV is not living in a sub, you can eat a sub in an RV, but while you are making it, your personal space may be violated.  It’s an adjustment that takes time, perhaps more time than has been invested so far.

To this point we have traveled over 4,500 miles since October 26, 2012.  Currently we are in the Florida Keys (the 17th state of the trip), in search of clear water suitable for snorkeling.  As directed by a salty SCUBA shop owner that could easily be mistaken for Christopher Walken, by sound and stature, we will take a boat trip to Sombrero Light House on the 24th.

The stretch from George to Florida held our first semi-major breakdown, the refrigerator.   We stopped at a service center to have the frig checked and see if it could be fixed, or if it needed to be replaced.  Naturally it needed to be replaced.  The cooling unit was bad and it would need to be ordered.  The new refrigerator was there and could be installed in two hours.  The new refrigerator would cost about $50.00 more than having the new cooling unit installed.

We called our warranty company, and they said they would send an inspector to check the refrigerator to see if it needed to be replaced, and they would be there within 24 hours.  After some reasoning with the unreasonable we canceled the warranty and paid for the new refrigerator to be installed.  The refrigerator could not fit through the door, so the driver’s side window was taken out and the switch was made; and we were off to the Sunshine State.
